My practice includes patchworking, embroidery, weaving, doll and garment making. Sewing is a gentle endeavour that combines skill, process and craft.
Often the materials dictate what to make as fabric holds associative memory. You can usurp expectation and tradition by playing with texture, colour, shape and purpose. How does this work? I’m still learning. I hold onto things half made, unresolved and then revisit and my hands have a mind of their own, and repare what was resistant. There is sometimes a transformative moment when the soft, tactile object becomes sturdy. Not necessarily in form but in message. It is like it always existed and it has just been translated as a language can be. It is a satisfying feeling.
